What is a civic association?
A civic association is a group of citizens who have voluntarily joined together for collective action on community affairs. In general, its objectives are to preserve, enhance, and plan for the orderly development of the neighborhood and to promote the general welfare, safety and civic spirit of the community.
Why Join?
To connect with our neighbors so that we can address issues in our area and lobby our local government for improvements. Some examples:
- Safety
- We recently lobbied for stop signs on our block on Llanfair road
- On Midvale neighbors asked for “Slow, Children” signs to combat speeding
- Upgrades to worn out or outdated signs
- Amenities
- Some of us would like to see the basketball courts restored that were once at the Sellers Library property
- We may want to lobby for bike lanes
- Improvements to Naylor’s run park
- Home improvement
- We can share information specific to our housing stock and tips on good contractors, electricians, plumbers and so on.
- Your property value may increase because of neighborhood improvements.
- Schools
- Traffic issues at school opening and closing times
- Information about using the school property for events
